Bet a hand you would call with

I think Matt Damon said it best in Rounders:

"If it's good enough to call, you've got to be in there raising."

If there's one thing that I've found has cost me more money than anything in this game, it's not being the person to force the action. If you're in early position and you check while holding a hand that you'll probably call on to see the next card, BET!

You never know what the other players are thinking, but being the first to bet will generally take away their bluffing tendencies. You will be amazed at how many pots you take down early betting under the gun.

Just remember, you need to have a hand worthy of betting with!

Good advice but....

I think your advice is good but (as you pointed out) you need to have a decent hand.

If you start betting every hand your table image will suffer and your bets will not receive due respect.

Good post !
