OK, so Bodog is a made up word, but it’s come to identify with a lifestyle of excitement and risk-taking. And whether that is embodied in the industries that the brand dabbles in (such as gambling, music recording, and Bodog MMA fighting) or consenting to allow US players play on its site despite the possible liability, Bodog is living on the edge.

Even though the brand might be edgy, the playing is predictably concentrated in no limit holdem (in the small to medium stakes), but players can usually find a reasonable spread at Omaha and Stud tables during peak hours (around 7 PM PST). At that time, players have observed around 2,400 ring game players and 9,000 tournament players.  Some of those tourney players might be in the field for the $100,000 guaranteed Sunday tournament, which has satellites that run as low as $1.

Bodog Poker also offers an exceptional promotion. The sign-up bonus is 110% (maximum $550) where 10% is deposited into your account up front. That’s as much as $50 up front, which is much more than any site is willing to give, even if they offer no-deposit bonuses. Tack on other incentives like the 100% monthly reload bonuses and Poker Points that convert into cash to and you’ll realize Bodog's value before you even sit down a table.

Bodog Poker features

Bodog's software is rich with the necessities of play: superfast speed, reasonably good graphics, functional, playable. Standards like in-game note taking and statistics make their presence felt.

The software updates are tailor-made to player feedback, which results in a unique display; and unusual features, like preset table actions and beginner's tournaments which pay out to the top 50% in the tournament.

The aforementioned display is central and heads-up, specifically made for readability rather than realism or flash. Some of the display specifics include a spotlight to follow the action and defined lines and player spaces to discern who did what.
There's also a picture-in-picture view that allows a mini-view of two other tables. This is a very nice idea. You can switch this over to regular tiled tables if you prefer. The background color may be changed from the standard blood red to any color using options. We think it's easier to see the spotlight with a paler background.
Both these features are switched ON in the picture above, showing the green background. Compare that with the red version, below, to see how much better the spotlight works against green felt.
The major apparent limitation is that there's a maximum of four of those ultra-readable tables, which is kind of sad considering that it's just that type of layout that the high-volume players could really use.
We like the fact that there are so few wasted gimmicks here. It's no frills, really, or rather, just enough frills without being too showy. No vampire avatars here.

PKR Reviews: Player Fishiness

So, this is the section where that edgy Bodog branding has pays back. All of the sleek commercials and Bodog girls get their fair share of credit for attracting players. In fact, it's equally fair to mention the casino and sports betting arms of the operation that feed a rather steady stream of action-seeking players into the system.

These players contribute to what are widely considered to be loose tables in the lower limits. I might also guess that the four table maximum filters out some of the tight, volume players. Don't bank on that hypothesis, though, because Bodog is Pokertracker compatible which is a big draw for just those types. To summarize: lower-limit games are the place to play.

Bodog Poker offers form emails and a toll-free number for any occasion. It’s also a great room regardless of your online experience, but especially for the new players because of its special, low-limit friendly promotions and software.
